Unfinished

I recently read Priyanka Chopra‘s book - titled Unfinished, where you wrote very candidly about her story. Usually when I’m reading about the biographies, they narrate the incidents more, and not the emotions. This one felt different, and it felt vulnerable.

She’s isn’t one of my favorite actors around, if anything I sometimes find her too strong / confident in the roles. However, when I read the biography, you cannot stop being amazed by her accomplishments.

There are a few things that impressed me and I would keep as a takeaway from the book. First was her learning that you can constantly re-invent herself whenever her situation changes. As a kid, her family shifted cities every few years and she took it as an opportunity to develop and reinvent herself whenever. This reflects in her later life trajectory also when she dabbled into multiple things - be it Bollywood career, or one in music, or later in hollywood.

Another interesting learning is, you take your chances. Once you get a seat at the table, you take your shot, however little your chances. Success comes to those who ignore the odds and still prepare for the best.

In my own career, I have been reinventing myself every few years and have taken my chances. Some times they pay off, sometimes they don’t. But you never know where the journey takes you, so it is always interesting to keep trying.
